Chmod Tutorials

According to wikipedia, the chmod command (abbreviated from change mode) is a shell command in Unix and Unix-like environments. When executed, the command can change file system modes of files and directories. The modes include permissions and special modes.

I just had to adjust these settings last night so here are a few decent tutorials I found on the subject…

Change file permissions (chmod) with ftp :: Tutorial explaining how to change your file permissions using common ftp programs.

FTP and Chmod tutorial for beginners :: This tutorial explains in a simple manner how to transfer files to your server and how to CHMOD them.

Chmod Tutorial ::  This tutorial contains step by step instructions to CHMOD a file to the two most common settings, 755 and 777.

The simplest way to learn CHMOD is to simply use a free FTP client like CoreFTP, and then right-click on the files on your server. You can click the check boxes, and watch the permissions change, and a lot easier to memorize if needed.
