So what’s with the smiley?
I know you’ve seen it.. Maybe you even knew why it was there.. or perhaps, like me, you had absolutely no clue why you kept seeing them everywhere… Either way, I’m talking about that little text smiley face that shows up mostly in the footer but occasionally in the sidebar but most certainly on all types of different web sites.
Why is it there?
It turns out the culprit is the WordPress plugin WP-Stats.
How do I get rid of it?
For once this is an easy fix
All you have to do to get rid of that little smiley guy is put the following css into your theme’s stylesheet:
img#wpstats { display:none; }
And that’s it! Smiley face is gone

Ha! I’ve been wondering what those were. While always wanting to support plugin users, I’ve found the display:none css style critical in presenting a clean professional look for clients.

Personally I thought that was pretty cool although it was a glitch from wpstats. Anyway thanks for highlighting the solution to it. =)
I love this small guides and tips on how to get rid of those weird things that you just can’t live with when using a script. Nice little tip here. TY^^
I actually think its quite pleasant seeing that little smiley face, but I agree that it can look unprofessional, so its nice to know how to get rid of it if you need to.
Oh, now that makes sense. It must be how they keep track of the stats, by loading that image. I have used WordPress for years without figuring that out, so thanks for this tip!
Ha! I wouldn’t have thought of using CSS to remove it. Sometimes the simplest methods are the best.
I have only seen these

Thanks for the heads up. I have a few wordpress blogs but haven’t run into that yet. But as soon as I start using WP-stats i’ll know how to hide the smiley. Thanks for another beneficial post Dani!
Cool, seems like a fairly simple fix. Thanks heaps!
Oh, now that makes sense. It must be how they continue to keep track of the stats, by loading that image. I’ve used WordPress for many years without figuring that out, so thanks for this tip!
OMW, now it makes sense. Thank you for clearing up such a small, but beneficial matter! Always appreciate your much useful tips!
