How to upgrade Wordpress with Fantastico

Upgrading Wordpress with Fantastico is super easy and anyone can do it. Log into your hosting account cpanel and click fantastico deluxe (it might just say Fantastico).

Click the fantastico link

On the main page of Fantastico you should see a list of applications that can be installed using Fantastico, if your blog can be upgraded there will be a box on the right hand side stating there is an upgrade available.

Upgrade available

Once you click on the upgrade link you will see this warning:

Read carefully

All this means is if you have changed the original wordpress core files (not themes or plugins) the changes will be lost on the upgrade and will have to be made again. (i.e. changed the default language, moved the index page from the original install folder, etc.) The themes and plugins folder will remain unchanged however it is always a good idea to make sure you have recent backups just in case. Plugins must be deactivated, but don’t worry, you won’t have to reconfigure them again, just reactivate them after the upgrade is complete.

And that is it, click upgrade and you are finished!

Upgrade complete

Note: Upgrading wordpress with Fantastico will not work if you have previously installed wordpress manually or your index file no longer resides in the default install folder.

Don’t have Fantastico? We offer hosting for as little as $5/month that includes the cpanel admin with Fantastico Deluxe. Email us for more information!
